What is Peak Extractor?

Peak Extractor is an application, written in Perl, which allows the extraction of specific regions of a global alignment (in the FASTA format). This region can then be viewed as plain text or as a figure produced by the EMBOSS program PRETTYPLOT.

This utility was originally designed to extract the aligned sequence that corresponds to a peak of sequence identity indicated by the program SynPlot (also available via this web-site). The core program (peak_extractor.pl) was written by Dr. Mike Chapman. The script is available from this web-site.

Peak Extractor takes as its input aligned sequences in FASTA format, with gaps in the sequences introduced by the alignment represented by "-" characters. The sequences must therefore be of the same length.
